Substrate Options (Sold Separately)
This mushroom monotub doesn’t include substrate, so be sure to select one of the following when ordering:
- 10lb All-in-One Monotub Bag (Rye & CVG)
- 10lb Horse Manure Monotub Bag
- 1.5 kg Rye Grain Bag
- 3 × 1 kg Coco Coir CVG Substrate Bags
- 1000ml Vermiculite Casing Layer
These combinations support robust colonisation and strong flushes for a variety of gourmet and functional mushroom strains. We also stock a wide range of mushroom substrates in our store.
The best substrate for this monotub is a mix of 1.5 kg of organic rye grain and 3 kg of CVG mixture (Coco Coir, Vermiculite, and Gypsum).
How to Use the 25L Mushroom Monotub
- Apply Stick-On Filters: Cover the pre-drilled vents with the provided filter patches.
- Add Substrate & Spawn: Use a high-quality mushroom substrate like rye grain or CVG mix. Mix thoroughly with mushroom spawn.
- Maintain Conditions: Mist as needed to maintain humidity and keep the monotub in a warm, dark spot.
- Monitor Growth: Watch for pinning and maintain airflow via the filter vents.
- Harvest & Repeat: Expect your first flush within 3–4 weeks, with multiple flushes possible.
Why a Mushroom Monotub Over Other Grow Kits?
Compared to a typical grow kit, a mushroom monotub offers:
- Larger yields and better control compared to grow kits thanks to more substrate space
- Stick-on filter patches allow precise air exchange, ensuring fresh oxygen intake while maintaining humidity and contamination control
- Less hands-on maintenance than shotgun or small chamber setups
- Flexibility to grow a wide range of strains at scale
- Easy Setup & Use: Apply filter patches, add substrate and spawn, and start growing
Mushroom monotub vs shotgun fruiting chamber
- A shotgun fruiting chamber suits small-scale growing and requires constant misting and monitoring.
- A monotub fruiting chamber retains humidity better, requires less maintenance, and produces higher yields. It is ideal for oyster, shiitake, and other mushroom varieties.
For bulk cultivation, a mushroom monotub is the better option.
