Sterilised • Simple • Reliable — Perfect for First-Time Growers
Inject & Forget mushroom grow bags are one of the easiest ways to begin mushroom cultivation. Because the substrate is already prepared and sterilised, you only need to inject your chosen spores or liquid culture and let the bag develop in a warm, stable environment.
This guide walks you through every step, explains what to expect, and helps you get the best results from your grow bag.
✅ What You’ll Need Before You Start
To use an Inject & Forget mushroom grow kit, you will need:
A sterilised Inject & Forget grow bag (from SporeBuddies)
A spore syringe or liquid culture syringe
A sterile needle (included with all SporeBuddies syringes)
Alcohol wipes (included with the kit)
A clean workspace
A warm environment or mushroom incubator (24–27°C)
Legal Notice: Grow bags are intended for gourmet and functional mushrooms, or for lawful research. SporeBuddies does not sell magic mushroom grow kits or products containing controlled substances.
🧼 Step 1 — Prepare a Clean Workspace
Day 1: Good hygiene prevents contamination and ensures your grow bag develops clean, healthy mycelium.
Do this:
Wash your hands
Wipe down the table with disinfectant
Keep pets, dust, and airflow to a minimum
Lay out your syringe, alcohol wipe and grow bag
The cleaner the environment, the better your success rate.
💉 Step 2 — Inject the Grow Bag
Day 1: Each Inject & Forget bag has a self-healing injection port.
Wipe the injection port with the alcohol swab
Attach the sterile needle to your syringe
Insert the needle into the injection port
Inject of spores or liquid culture. 2.5ml for the 1lbs bag, 10ml for the 2lbs bag and 20ml for the 4lbs bag and the 6lbs bag.
Withdraw the needle and allow the injection port to reseal
- Mix the bag well to distribute the spore solution all the way through the substrate.
🌡 Step 3 — Incubate the Bag and keep in darkness.
Days 1 till finish. Place the injected grow bag somewhere warm:
✔ Ideal Temperature: 24–27°C
A mushroom incubator is ideal, but any warm cupboard works.
During incubation:
You will start to see white mycelium forming after 7–10 days
Avoid touching or squeezing the bag
Keep the bag out of direct light
Do not open the bag
Day 10: Lightly break up the contents (“shake” the bag)
Day 15: Repeat the mix once more
This helps the mycelium spread evenly.
🍄 Step 4 — Wait for Full Colonisation (Around Day 20)
Day 20: The bag is fully colonised when:
The substrate is completely white
There are almost no substrate patches
The mycelium looks healthy and uniform
A fully colonised bag is now ready for the fruiting stage.
💧 Step 5 — Fruiting (21 Days)
day 20+: Once colonised, the bag needs:
Add Artificial Light to fruit.
Place your bag in:
A mushroom grow tent, or
A Mushroom Incubator like the GrowBuddie60
You do not need to mist or fan these bags — they are designed to “do the work for you.”
Simply provide a stable environment and allow mushrooms to form naturally.
✂️ Step 6 — Harvesting
Mushrooms are typically ready 2–3 weeks after adding Artificial light.
Harvest when:
Caps begin to open, or
The veil begins to tear
- Basically when the mushrooms change from lollipop shapes to umbrella shapes.
Gently twist and pull — avoid cutting, as cutting can leave material behind.
🔄 Step 7 — Encouraging Additional Flushes
After your first harvest:
Add ½ cup of water inside the bag
Let it soak for 12–24 hours
Pour out excess water and drain well for 15mins.
Put the Mushroom grow bag kit back into the growbuddie60 or grow tent.
- The next flush will appear in 10 days if the mushroom grow bag was drain well for 15mins.
This rehydrates the substrate and helps produce 2–3–5–7 additional flushes depending on the customer.
🛠 Troubleshooting Common Issues
My bag isn’t growing mycelium
Temperature may be too low. Keep between 25–29°C.
There are strange colours (green/black/pink)
This is contamination. Dispose of the bag safely and clean your workspace.
Growth has stalled
Often caused by low temperature or insufficient shaking during colonisation.
Bag looks dry
The bag will not be dry before the first harvest. After the harvest, you are asked to soak the bag to rehydrate the substrate.
